What do you know about gel posture pads?

Gel Surgical Pads

An essential surgical aid for the operating theatre, placed under the patient’s body to relieve the patient from pressure sores (bed sores) that can occur as a result of prolonged surgery.

Constructed from polymer gel and film, it has excellent softness and anti-pressure and shock-absorbing properties to maximise pressure dispersion and minimise the occurrence of bed sores and pressure damage to nerves.

It is X-ray permeable, waterproof, insulating and non-conductive. The material is free of latex and plasticisers and is resistant to bacterial growth and non-allergenic.

They are easy to clean and can be disinfected with non-corrosive disinfectant solutions for the operating room.

The polymer gel cushion is designed and manufactured using special medical materials according to the shape of the person and the angle of the surgery, which can better fix the patient’s position and achieve ideal surgical results.

The gel material is effective in relieving pressure pain, dispersing pressure points, reducing pressure damage to muscles and nerves and preventing bed sores.

The gel has been tested for non-toxicity, non-irritation and non-allergenicity and will not cause any harm to the patient’s skin; the infusion production technology (i.e. the gel is infused through a 1-2cm infusion port), with a small seal, is not prone to bursting and splitting, has a long service life and is cost-effective.

Contraindications to use.

(1) banned for body surface injuries where breathability is required.

(2) Contraindicated in patients with contact allergy to polyurethane material.

(3) Contraindicated in extremely obese patients who require a prone position for surgery.

PART01. Supine surgical solutions

There are several types of supine positions, including horizontal, lateral and prone supine. The horizontal supine position is more commonly used for anterior chest wall and abdominal surgery; the lateral supine position is more commonly used for surgery on one side of the head and neck, such as surgery on one side of the neck and the submandibular gland; the supine position is more commonly used for surgery on the thyroid and tracheotomy. There are two main combinations of these surgical cushions: the first is a round head ring, concave upper limb cushion, shoulder cushion, semi-circular cushion and heel cushion; the second is a sandbag, round pillow, shoulder cushion, hip cushion, semi-circular cushion and heel cushion.

It is more common in the fixation of vertebral fractures and in the correction of back and spinal deformities. There are three main combinations of posture pads for this procedure: the first is a high bowl head ring, thoracic pad, iliac spine pad, concave posture pad and prone leg pad; the second is a high bowl head ring, thoracic pad, iliac spine pad and modified leg pad; the third is a high bowl head ring, adjustable prone pad and modified leg pad.

This is more commonly used in cranial and thoracic surgery. There are two main combinations of these surgical cushions: the first is a high bowl head ring, shoulder cushion, concave upper limb cushion and tunnel cushion; the second is a high bowl head ring, shoulder cushion, concave upper limb cushion, leg cushion, forearm immobilisation strap and hip immobilisation strap. The lateral position is more commonly used in cranial and thoracic surgery.
